인간학습 內 인지적 과정을 도출해서 이해하는 것이 얼마나 힘든 일인지를 알아보기 위해 쥐(mice)의 학습과 교수(훈련)에 관해 알아보자.예를 들어, 쥐를 쳇바퀴에서 뒤로 가도록 훈련시켜 보자. 먼저, 쥐의 준비 행동[(entry behavior) (인간의 교수(학습)에 있어 학습 준비도에 해당)]이 어느 정도인지를 알아야 할 것이다. 다음으로 훈련 목적이 무엇인지를(쥐의 훈련 목적 인간의 교육 목적에 해당) 명료하게 설정해야 한다. 또한 쥐의 훈련을 어디서부터 처음 할 것인가를 고민해야 한다[외적 자극 이용(막대기로 찌르기 or 밀어 주기), 보상, 벌 등 中에서 1개]. 끝으로, 평가 절차(evaluation process)가 필요할 것이다.
